Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin porcelain shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth to create a straight, white, healthy-looking smile. Though they are used to correct many cosmetic concerns, veneers offer a natural-looking appearance. They are also stain-resistant. Veneers are a minimally invasive treatment used to correct a variety of cosmetic issues like:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Uneven teeth
  • Gaps
  • Discoloration and staining
  • Chipped teeth

How are veneers applied?

Dr. Krumly usually applies porcelain veneers over two appointments.

During the first appointment, he thoroughly examines and cleans your teeth to make sure they are healthy and strong enough to support veneers. Then, if your teeth are in good enough condition, he gently removes a thin layer of tooth enamel from the teeth receiving the veneers. This makes space for the veneer to fit flush against your teeth and the neighboring teeth.

Dr. Krumly then takes a mold of your teeth, which he will send to a dental lab where your veneers are custom-made to fit your teeth precisely. Finally, he fits you with temporary veneers to protect your teeth while your permanent veneer is made.

At your second visit, Dr. Krumly removes your temporary veneers and bonds your permanent veneer to the front of your teeth. He then checks your bite and polishes the veneers until they shine just like natural teeth.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Though they aren’t permanent, veneers last for many years. Veneers should last for 10 years or more if you take care of them properly.

How do I take care of dental veneers?

Veneers are easy to take care of. You brush twice a day and floss at least once. You should also have dental checkups and professional cleanings with Dr. Krumly at least twice a year. If you happen to chip or crack a veneer, call Krumly Dental Care to make an appointment immediately.
