Invisalign treatment involves wearing a series of clear plastic aligners that move your teeth to the correct position over a period of several months. The aligners are nearly invisible while being worn and can be removed while you eat and clean your teeth, although you must wear them for 22-23 hours each day for effective treatment. Treatment usually takes between 12-18 months, although some patients may need to wear the aligners for a longer period of time. Invisalign can correct most alignment issues.
Traditional metal braces
Traditional metal braces use a combination of metal brackets that are attached to your teeth and wires that Dr. Krumly adjusts on a biweekly basis to correct the appearance and alignment of your teeth. Metal braces are often used on teenagers who wear the braces for 18 months to three years, depending on the severity of their alignment issue.
If you have extreme alignment issues, metal braces may be a more effective orthodontic treatment to address your needs.
Dr. Krumly will talk to you in detail about your specific needs to help you choose the best treatment.
Retainers help maintain the alignment of your teeth. You might need to wear a retainer after your orthodontic treatment is complete to prevent your teeth from slipping out of their new positions. Like your braces, retainers are custom-made to fit your teeth and jaw precisely. You may need to wear the retainer all the time at first and then reduce the time or only wear it overnight while you sleep.
On average, you’ll see Dr. Krumly once a month during your orthodontic treatment. You’ll see him more often at the beginning and end of your treatment to make sure that your teeth are responding to treatment and to choose the best day to remove your braces.
